Discreetly controls your cravings by giving continued relief throughout the day.

How do I use Nicorette Patch?

  • One Nicorette Patch should be applied first thing every morning and removed before you go to bed. This helps provide craving relief throughout the day and avoids night time delivery of nicotine which can increase the risk of the side effect of sleep disturbance.
  • The Nicorette Patch can be applied to any area of clean, dry, non-hairy skin. For example: hip, upper arm, upper thigh or chest.
  • Do not place a patch on the same piece of skin two days running, as this can cause irritation.
  • When applying the patch, run your finger around the edge of the patch to ensure it adheres properly.
  •  Never smoke at the same time as using Nicorette Patch.

The Nicorette Patch Programme

The full course for using Nicorette Patch lasts around 12 weeks, from quitting cigarettes to no longer requiring Nicorette.

During that time, you should gradually reduce your intake of nicotine, until you can do without it. We suggest that you use the Step 1 (15mg) patch for the first 8 weeks, and then switch to the lower strengths for the remaining 4 weeks as shown.

How to combine use of Nicorette Patch and Gum or Inhaler

Normally Nicorette Patch or Gum or Inhaler alone would provide enough nicotine to help most people control their craving for cigarettes. However, some people may find that even though they are using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) they still have intense or frequent cravings they find difficult to cope with. If you are one of these people you may benefit from combining Nicorette Patch with either Nicorette 2mg Gum or Nicorette 10mg Inhaler.

Each morning apply a Nicorette 15mg/16 hour Patch to an intact area of skin. The Nicorette Patch should be removed before going to bed. After applying the Nicorette Patch use Nicorette 2mg Gum or Nicorette Inhaler whenever a craving occurs.

If you are using Nicorette 2mg Gum try to chew at least 4 pieces of gum every day. Most people will use 5-6 pieces. If you are using Nicorette Inhaler try to use 4-5 cartridges every day.

The combination of Nicorette Patch and Nicorette Gum or Inhaler should be used in this way for 6-12 weeks. After this time if required you can wean yourself off NRT by either:

  1. Use the Nicorette 10mg/16 hour Patch for 3-6 weeks and then use the Nicorette 5mg/16 hour Patch for 3-6 weeks while using the same number of pieces of Nicorette Gum or Inhaler cartridges in a day that you have routinely used. Then when a patch is no longer needed, gradually reduce the number of pieces of gum or inhaler cartridges until you no longer need them. OR
  2. Stop use of the Nicorette 15mg/16 hour Patch and then radually reduce the number of pieces of Nicorette 2mg Gum or Inhaler cartridges that are used until you no longer need them.

Nicorette Patch delivers 15mg, 10mg and 5mg nicotine over 16 hours. Always read the label carefully and use strictly as directed. If you have any side effects, or require further information, consult your doctor or pharmacist

Warnings: mild local itching or burning of skin at application site. If used with cigarettes high nicotine levels may cause nausea, vomiting  or headaches.
